This is how you do Legoland 7 months pregnant :) |
So, I guess the cabin fever got to us, or maybe it was knowing that our precious new baby is coming in a couple months and we wouldn't be going anywhere for a while, but we decided to take a trip to the beach in California and a stop at Legoland this last week.
We seem to always hit the beach on rainy days, but that didn't dampen the enthusiasm, except when Eliza fell into the salty sea and was completely soaked.
We discovered Jared is a seagull whisperer. He taught the kids how to hold up Cheetos and the seagulls grabbed it from their hands with the feet. They all had a blast, until Lucy started dropping gold fish crackers for the seagulls right at her feet and the birds were swirling all around her, them she flipped out, but Daddy, the seagull whisperer (or shouter in this case) frightened the menacing birds away...for a moment.
The kids wanted to swim every chance they could at the pool, even though it was freezing cold...brrrrrr
Legoland was fun...it exhausted the kids, and mommy and almost Daddy :)
Lucy kept crying to go home, but then today she cried to go to the beach. I reminded her of the long car ride in her buckle, but she just smiled and said, "Yeah, let's go to beach!"
The drive was an adventure to say the least. We did great on the way down, but coming home we were a bit travel weary and there were tears all around, we almost had even Mommy and Daddy tearing up as we sailed through St. George at 6:30 p. m. Jared was our star driver and we joked because his lead foot got heavier and heavier as the kids began crying...by the time he realized how fast he was going he saw police lights in the rearview...oopsy....
Then and hour later...police lights again... double oopsy. So all in all we got one warning and one ticket :) OH, and we made it home in one piece and tucked the tired little munchkins in their beddy-byes.
Hopefully we made a happy memory!
Oh what fun!! It is our goal to get to the beach soon, but with Aaron so close to graduating we can't venture any further than Salt Lake, then once he graduates I'm due two weeks later! So our California beach adventure is planned for next summer for our 10 year family birthday celebration (10 year anniversary). Where did you stay? I was looking at condos online (since our family size doesn't really work in an hotel anymore) and I found some nice ones for around $150 a night, what works for you guys?
ReplyDeleteBook in advance. Don't stay at the decrepit aging Legoland Hotel. Spend a few extra dollars to stay at a RESORT or CONDO rather than a hotel. Make sure the resort has kid water slides, kid pools, and kid everything. Can't stress booking in advance enough, saves you hundreds. We stayed here: http://huntingtonbeach.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html and the kids had a blast in the water resort area, and we could walk to the beach from the resort. If we do it again, we'll look for a beach-side condo or home, or definitely stay in a RESORT - who are used to accomodating large families, and they even valet your bags, vehicle, and whatever you want, all included in the price (but do have a few dollar bills to tip them during your stay).
ReplyDeleteDo not stay at Lego land more than 2 days max. Boring. Make it a one day, 2 if you are adventurous, and do not stay at the LegoLand Hotel - but find a nicer one outside the park for half the price with kid swimming resort included.
Oh, and Legoland should only be visited when the water park area is open - otherwise there isn't a ton to do that you couldn't do at home or better yet, drive to Lagoon, you'll find more to do as far rides are concerned with the kids. This ofcourse comes from a family that has lots of legos but doesn't follow legos like many might do - lego miniland is old and decrepit just like the hotel, and everything is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, maybe even more than Disneyland if you can image that.
ReplyDeleteWow, more than Disneyland, eh?! I'm looking to book a place this summer for next, I have to convince Aaron first that at least one day at Disneyland would be fun for our kids, things with a high price tag are always hard to swallow for him, but for me, it's all about family fun together making memories. Then my brother gave me the straight story of Disneyland and young kids: under 3 the lines at the park are just hard for them! So we'll see what we come up with for our California trip for our 10-year anniversary. For sure we want to see the warm beach though, that is a must!
